What this is
Three Lengths is coaching, not a ruling. Everything written on this site is originally authored. Where we mention the Racing Rules of Sailing we cite rule numbers; we never reproduce their text, which is published by World Sailing and whose digital rights are reserved. Three Lengths is not affiliated with, licensed by or endorsed by World Sailing, US Sailing or any national authority. If you believe something here reproduces protected text or a protected diagram, tell us and we will remove it.
Your data is yours
Your races, boards and notes belong to you. We will never paywall, degrade, or hold hostage your own data. You do not have to ask us for a copy or a deletion: both are buttons on your account page, and the copy is the whole of it as one file.
If you upload a race
An upload is a log from your boat’s device. We store three things: the file itself, exactly as you sent it; what we read from it, which is the positions and times and whatever else the device recorded (speed, heading, its start timer, a wind sensor); and when you uploaded it. A race file says where you were and when, so nobody else on this site can see your race unless you share it. You can download the original, or a GPX copy, free, whenever you like. Deleting a race deletes the file, everything read from it and its page. If we can’t read a file, we delete it straight away and keep nothing.
If you join an event
Your races in an event are shared with everyone who has its link: they see your track on the water and your place. Events are not listed or indexed anywhere. Where an event links a public race tracker, we show the fleet’s tracks and results as that tracker publishes them. Leave the event, or delete the race, and your track is gone from it.
If you close your account
Everything of yours goes: your races and their files, your days, notes, boards and settings, and your place in every event. An event you created stays for the sailors in it, without your name on it.
What we measure about the site
We count page views and record errors so we can fix what breaks, with PostHog and Vercel Analytics. We never sell any of it.

For copyright, privacy or anything aimed at a person, email hello@threelengths.com. We aim to answer within a few days, and we act faster on anything involving protected text or a named individual.
